Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, you’ve spent more time at home because social distancing is essential to stopping the spread of the virus. The CDC recommends limiting face-to-face contact with others to avoid being exposed to coronavirus while also preventing the transmission of the virus to others, especially for asymptomatic people. It’s recommended you stay at least 6 feet apart from others; however, how is that possible if you need to see your dentist? Believe it or not, your dentist has implemented several changes to encourage social distancing in the office.
1. Virtual Waiting Rooms
Virtual waiting rooms are becoming the norm to limit the number of people in the dental office at any time. Upon arriving to the office, you’ll remain in your car in the parking lot where you’ll call the front desk. The front office staff will ask you a few questions about your health before escorting you to the clinical area when it’s time for your appointment.
2. Tele-Dentistry
Many dentists are offering tele-dentistry as an option to eliminate needing to come into the office at all. This can be used for patients who need a consultation or follow-up visit to reduce the need for leaving your home during these uncertain times.
3. Spaced Out Appointments
Your dentist is scheduling fewer patients each day with more time between appointments. This lessens the likeliness patients will encounter one another. In addition, it also gives the dental team more time to clean, so you can feel confident knowing the dental office is the cleanest place you will visit all day.
4. Expanded Appointments
If you need to have a procedure that might typically require multiple visits, your dentist is also offering expanded appointments. This allows them to perform the entire treatment in one day, so you don’t need to risk leaving your home multiple times.
5. Protective Barriers
It’s not always possible to keep your distance while at the dentist which is why the office is using various forms of protective barriers to keep everyone safe. You’ll notice plastic barriers at the front desk and other key areas where patients interact with their dental team.
Your dentist and their staff will use personal protective equipment, like masks, gloves, and face shields. This provides an added layer of protection to reduce cross-contamination and exposure to harmful pathogens.
Keep Your Distance at the Dentist
As the country reopens and you’re able to see your dentist again, it’s important you maintain your distance. Your dental office has revamped their safety protocols to help combat the spread of COVID-19 while helping you invest in a healthy smile.
